"Steve Perry has revealed that behind-the-scenes activity is taking place with a view to him working with Journey again."

And the band’s classic-era singer says he’s realised the value of being in a band, after he was sidelined in 1998. There has been some speculation that Perry and Neal Schon might settle their differences after the guitarist last year sent a public message to his former colleague, saying: “We had amazing chemistry together. I love him with all the love and admiration you could have. Steve, let’s talk soon.” Now Perry tells Artisan News: “I haven’t worked with Neal. We’re trying. It’s tough. I’m doing my best in that area and I can only do so much.” He hasn’t discussed what the stumbling blocks might be – although in 2013 Schon suggested the band would keep current frontman Arnel Pineda in the picture, even if Perry returned. Looking back on his life after Journey, which has included a cancer tragedy, Perry says: “Bands are the most amazing thing. The older I get, the more I realise how important what we had together was, and how it worked. “I realise I brought things out of them, and they certainly brought a lot of my vocal stuff out of me. We were just raising each other to this place. That’s probably the biggest chemistry thing I recognise now.” Perry recently said he was writing new material, influence by contemporary rock bands including Muse and Imagine Dragons, and also by electronic music.
