"Chitty Chitty Bang Bang goes under the hammer

If you've ever sat in traffic and dreamt of driving the flying Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car - one of the most iconic vehicles in movie history - now is your chance.

A replica of the model, registered with British authorities under the name 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang', is to go on sale September 4 via an online auction site and could fetch up to £250,000 (€282,500).

It's not a model used in the original 1968 movies, but it has been created true to the original and then some, with a 3.0-liter V6 engine and an automatic gearbox.

Uniquely, the car also incorporates wireless control for some of its most famous accessories, including automatically opening wings, rising propellers and rotating blades.

It will be auctioned by Robson Kay through an online auction expected to begin September 4 and end October 14 - along with another unique model, a shocking pink original 'Pink Panther' car.

Created in 1969 for The Pink Panther Show, it played a starring on-screen role in the opening sequence and is expected to sell for up to £100,000 (€113,000), although sadly it's not licensed to be used on public roads.

Still, at least buyers will know they're getting a piece of movie history - Pink Panther Car designer Jay Ohrberg was also the man behind Knight Rider's K.I.T.T., the Back To The Future DeLorean, the 1966 Batman Batmobile, the 1989 Batman Batmobile, the Dukes of Hazzard's General Lee and the Starsky & Hutch Gran Torino.

It too will be auctioned beginning September 4, when both cars will be making an appearance at the Chelsea Auto Legends Show in London."
